Experienced defender Habib Kavuma has been named the new assistant captain of Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC).
Kavuma was officially revealed as the new vice-captain by manager Mike Hillary Mutebi in a press briefing held at Phillip Omondi stadium on Wednesday.
He replaces Joseph Ochaya, who left the club last week to join Zambian outfit, Lusaka Dynamos.
The versatile defender, who has played an integral role since joining the club in the 2012/13 season, embodies character of leadership both on and off the pitch according to team manager, Mutebi.
“We have made some changes in the leadership of the club after the departure of Joseph Ochaya. We have promoted Habib Kavuma as the first assistant to Okot Dennis. He has demonstrated qualities of leadership and can coordinate with others,” Mutebi told www.kccafc.co.ug.
The soft spoken defender, who has played every KCCA game this season, is delighted with the role and promises to serve in his new capacity to the best of his ability.
“It is a blessing for me to be one of the captains at great club like KCCA FC. It is a vote of confidence for me from the manager and the technical team and this will probably push me to work harder,” said Kavuma in his acknowledgement.
In the same breath, goalkeepers Benjamin Ochan and Charles Lukwago have also been named the second and third assistant captains respectively.
Dennis Okot welcomed the changes and believes the trio have the qualities to lead KCCA and will help him to mobilize the rest of the team.
“I’m happy with the new appointments, Habib (Kavuma) is more experienced than me, Benjamin Ochan and Charles Lukwago are great leaders and this will help us as a team to become better,” Okot noted.
KCCA take on Police on Friday at Mandela National Stadium and victory for Mutebi’s charges will see the defending champions return to the summit of the league on 45 points.
