KCCA FC the defending Champions of the Azam Premier League came into the final league game against Sadolin in buoyant mood awaiting their crowning as the 2016/2017 Azam Uganda Premier League Champions, their 12th title.
It didn’t take the Champions long finding the back of the net and it was talisman Geoffrey Serunkuuma in the 10th minute who tapped home after a Derrick Nsibambi assist to take his season tally to 21.
The goal sent the crowd in raptures and it marked the beginning of the 12th title celebrations.
It wasn’t long til Tom Masiko doubled the lead with a thunderous strike in the 22nd minute that caused a deafening roar from the home crowd.
Despite being Champions awaiting crowning, KCCA FC played with purpose and showed they needed the win badly through a string of constant attacks that on several occasions troubled the Sadolin backline.
After the resume, gaffer Mike Mutebi introduced Derrick Nsibambi for Robert Ssentongo, Paul Mucureezi for Akinyemi Sulaimon and Noel Nasasira Geoffrey Serunkuuma to help introduce fresh legs in the tie.
In the 61st minute Karim Ndugwa pulled one back for the visitors with a smart header that went past custodian Benjamin Ocan.
2-1 is how it ended, KCCA FC winning their 12th title in the top tier league, showing they are a force to reckon with and ensuring they continue writing history in Ugandan football.
KCCA FC players and coaches will have little time to celebrate with the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup group tie game against Club Africain around the corner.
The game that will be played on Tuesday will need the champions to win to get back into contention of advancing to the last eight stage.
KCCA FC lost their first game 3-0 to FUS Rabat in Morocco while Club Africain won theirs against Rivers United 3-1 in Tunisia.
