Serunkuuma attributes wonderful season to coaching staff, teammates

The night belonged to striker Geoffrey Serunkuuma who is being given his land little by the KCCA Executive Director Jennifer Musisi and the Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, looking on is Aldrine Nsubuga the Vice president of StarTimes in Uganda.

Saturday night belonged to Geoffrey Serunkuuma as he went ahead to win three awards at the KCCA FC End Of Season Awards including the coveted Philip Omondi Footballer Of The Year Award Valuable Player.

After a successful season that included Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club winning the first ever domestic double in the club history and reaching the group stages of continental club tournament, it was time to reward the outstanding performers.

The awards dinner was held at City Hall gardens with Kampala Lord Mayor and KCCA FC patron, Erias Lukwago together with Executive Director Jennifer Musisi Ssemakula gracing the occasion.

Serunkuuma won three awards on the night, that is; Fans’ player of the season, Jimmy Kirunda players’ player of the year and the top prize, the Phillip Omondi Footballer Of The Year Award

The prolific striker could not hide his delight and was full of praise of the coaching staff and teammates for his excellent performance throughout the season.

I am extremely happy for the accolades I have won. It is a great achievement in my career and one of my best moments. The success has been a joint effort from the administration to the coaching team then to my fellow players

Serunkuuma told www.kccafc.co.ug before revealing that the  success has been a result of commitment, hardwork and working as a unit.

We have a great understanding as players, regardless of whether you are a senior player or a young one. Everybody has exhibited great commitment right from the start and to me that has been our strength

He went ahead to thank team manager Mike Mutebi for reviving his career at a time when he seemed like he could not deliver any more.

I will confess that it is coach Mike who pushed me to work this hard at a time when I thought I was winding up my career. Upon my return at the beginning of the season, he gave me the responsibility of being a role model to the young players on the team and this helped me to perform

The prolific finisher scored a total of 33 goals in all competitions to help KCCA FC retain the league title, win the Uganda Cup, the Fufa Super Cup and also make the group stages of the Total CAF Confederation Cup.

Serunkuuma walked away with a land title for winning the Phillip Omondi Footballer Of The Year Award while the other two accolades came with shs1,000,000/= each.

-7 in the Uganda Cup
– 4 in the CAF Champions League
-1 in the CAF Confederation Cup
-1 Fufa Super Cup
