KCCA FC Kick off new season with a win on the road.

KKCCA FC beat Brightstars FC 1-2 away in Kavumba and pocketed 3 points from the Uganda Premier League season’s first fixture.

The game was the opener for the 2020/21 season and it was a highly anticipated tie played behind closed doors in what is now the New Normal due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

KCCA FC Gaffer Mike Mutebi handed debuts to five of his new players. Versatile player Iguma started in defense while Kigozi Samson, Mugume Ashraf and Mazengo Loro played in midfield. Brian Aheebwa started as the team’s forward in pursuit for goals.

Six minutes into the game, Iguma surged forward on the right and played a clever ball to Kigozi but his effort flew wide.

On 10 minutes, Kigozi beat his marker and crossed in the box, Musana Hassan header went for the side net in what seemed like a clear cut chance for the visitors.

Italian Mazengo took matters in his hands and dribbled past two Brightstars players in the box but his effort was cleared away by Akwandwanaho on 18 minutes.

Keziron who was in control of the game, marshaled the midfield and kept the hosts on their toes for the most of the opening stanza. The midfielder played a defense splitting pass to Ssenyonjo but the latter was flagged offside when he seemed clear on goal.

On 21 minutes, Keziron chipped the ball in the box, Ssenyonjo dummied and the ball fell to Aheebwa who controlled with his cheats and volleyed home to give KCCA FC the lead and also open his goal account for KCCA.

Six minutes later, Aheebwa turned from scorer to provider when he run into the box and laid beautifully for Ssenyonjo who tapped home the second for KCCA FC and his fourth goal in five games for the club.

At the half hour mark, skipper Lukwago produced a double save to deny Brightstars.

Keziron, Kigozi and Aheebwa then teamed up with quick interchange of passes but Kigozi’s effort was saved by the hosts’ custodian.

At the start of the second half, Juma Balinya and Lwanga Charles were introduced for Mugume Ashraf and Samuel Ssenyonjo.

Five minutes after the restart, Brightstars threw more fire power up fron and defender Denis Iguma save had to save twice from the rebound on Lukwago’s goal keeper’s line to keep the game at 0-2.

Brian Aheebwa was cautioned two minutes after the hour mark.

Substitute Juma Balinya produced a piercing run in the heart of the midfield and passed to Charles Lwanga who delivered to Aheebwa in the box but his effort flew up and above the frame of the hosts goal.

Debutant Kigozi Samson was withdrawn and replaced by Filbert Obenchan on 78 minutes.

Italian midfielder Mazengo Stefano got cautioned for a foul on 81 minutes.

Two minutes later, Akwandwanaho pulled one back for the hosts in what was also their consolation for the game.

The 13 Uganda Premier League Champions will be back in action against Onduparaka FC on Tuesday 8th December 2020 at MTN Omondi Stadium.
