KCCA FC picked an away win against Busia United FC in the round of 64 of the 48th edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
First half goals from skipper Gift Ali and Charles Lwanga is all KCCA FC needed to progress to the round of 32.
KCCA FC showed immediate intent from the onset and Herbert Achai’s pinpoint cross into the box from down the left wing was headed inches wide by Lwanga inside 3 minutes.
5 minutes later, Usama Arafati, danced past his man and set up Lwanga whose effort flew wide again. A quick start by the hosts was intercepted by Brian Majwega who beautifully set up Yassar Mugerwa but the attacking midfielder’s backheel rolled out.
At the quarter hour mark, Usama and Mugerwa beautifully exchanged passes, the former’s cross in the hosts’ box was controlled by Jurua Hassan and was cleared away by Busia United FC goal keeper.
Just when KCCA FC had asked a number questions to the hosts’ backline, the breakthrough came in the 37th minute when Majwega teed up captain Gift Ali who struck home beautifully and non stop from 30 yards out in what could be a goal of the season contender.
Jurua and Gift were cautioned for foul and inquiry from the referee at the stroke of halftime.
And just when the hosts thought that was it from the visitors, Charles Lwanga pounced to double KCCA FC’s lead after Busia United’s goal keeper spilled the ball in first half additional time.
0-2 at the break.
After recess, Lwanga could have bagged a brace but his effort hit the side net in the 57th minute.
Morley Byekwaso rung changes , introducing Samson Kigozi for Mugerwa and John Revita for Lwanga in the 60th and 63rd minute.
Busia’s Dauda pulled one back for the hosts from a set piece that KCCA FC backline failed to thwart in the 70th minute.
Substitute Kigozi got cautioned for a foul on an opponent in the 71st minute.
Usama and Kigozi combined beautifully and the former crossed in the box but Kasirye Davis’ header was saved in the 83rd minute.
KCCA FC’s final change saw forward Brian Aheebwa replace another forward Kasirye in the 87th minute.
1-2 the final score.
