Uganda Football Legend Tonny Mawejje has retired from playing professional football.
Mawejje played for KCCA FC from 2004 until 2006 and won the Uganda Cup with KCCA FC in 2004.
Mawejje started his career at Masaka Local Council FC where he played from 2000 until 2003.
He later joined KCCA FC in 2004 until 2006 and won the Uganda Cup in his first season with the club.
He later joined Police FC in 2006 where he won the CECAFA Club Championship title.
He played for URA in 2008 and won the Uganda Premier League in his maiden season.
In 2009, Mawejje joined the professional ranks in Iceland at ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar where he played until 2013.
Mawejje also had a loan spell at South African club Golden Arrows in 2012.
In 2014, Mawejje joined Haugesund in Norway and was later sent out on loan to Valur in Iceland.
Mawejje would later join Þróttur in 2017. In the same year, he joined Tirana in Albania, Europe from 2017 to 2019 before he joined Al-Arabi Sports Club in Kuwaiti.
Mawejje then returned to Uganda and joined his former club Police FC in 2020 where he played football until 2022 when he decided to retire.
Mawejje’s International Career
Mawejje made his Uganda Cranes debut in 2004 as an 18-year-old. He scored eight goals in 83 appearances.
He was part of the Uganda Cranes side that broke the jinx in 2017 and qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations after 38 years.
Mawejje had two testimonial games that were played between the current Cranes squad and that of the 2017 AFCON.
The first encounter at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on September 14, was won by the Uganda Cranes side of the 2017 AFCON (2-1) and the one in Masaka Recreation Center on September 16 was won by the current Uganda Cranes side (2-1).

Defenders Juma Ibrahim, Hassan Jurua, and forward Rogers Mato have been selected for the final 22-man squad to represent Uganda.
Uganda Cranes Head Coach Milutin Sredojevic (Micho) named the team that traveled to Libya for a tri Nation international tournament.
Uganda U23 side will take on Libya on Wednesday 21st September and later Tanzania on Saturday 24th September.
