KCCA FC picked a win on match day one of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
Substitute Ashraf Mugume’s brace and defender Geoffrey Wasswa’s goal was all the 13 times Uganda Premier League Champions needed to pick a win against the purple sharks.
The game’s first moment of offensive promise fell to Shaban Muhammad who headed inches wide off Brian Majwega’S cross in the sixth minute.
Youthful custodian Ali Mwirusi was called into action to deny Sharif Kimbowa from close quarters in the 8th minute. A minute later Saidi Mayanja weaved through a forest of legs and found himself with the goalkeeper to beat but his effort hit the woodwork and went out.
Teenager Haruna Lukwago’s cross was smartly headed on goal by Congolese forward Tshisungu Kankonde but Wakiso’s defender Ronald Madoi recovered quickly to deny the 6.3ft man.
In the 21st minute, Allan Okello was fouled just outside the box, Kankonde stepped up to take the free kick but his effort rattled the frame of the goal and went out.
Wakiso’s Shariph Kimbowa then got booked for a foul on Geoffrey Wasswa on 23 minutes.
Waiswa teed up Kankonde whose first-time shot flew inches off the upright at the half-hour mark.
Mugume Ashraf replaced Emmanuel Wasswa in the 39th minute.
Stalemate at the break.
After recess, Waiswa’s lob off the head was riffled in the back of the net by Mugume to hand KCCA FC the lead in the 51st minute.
Three minutes after the hour mark, Usama Arafati replaced Moses Waiswa.
In the 66th minute, Geoffrey Wasswa headed home KCCA FC’s second goal off a beautiful corner from teenager Saidi Mayanja.
With a quarter of an hour to play, Kayanja, Aheebwa, and Obenchan replaced Kankonde, Okello, and Lukwago.
Wakiso pulled one back in the 82nd minute courtesy of Ibrahim Kasule.
Two minutes later, Mugume stretched KCCA’s lead with a beauty of a finish from outside the box, off a crisp pass from substitute Usama.
Wakiso reduced the deficit by one from a penalty taken by ex-KCCA player Tom Masiko after Revita had fouled in the box with two minutes on the clock.
3-2 the final score.
