KCCA FC were 1-0 winners over Vipers SC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
An early goal from Rogers Mato in the 5th minute was all the hosts needed to pick up three points from last season’s league Champions.
Allan Okello dribbled past Mukundane and was brought down by Murushid Juuko at the edge of the box. Waiswa stepped up to take the free kick but was cleared away by Darcy Mbaka in the 12th minute.
Vipers’s chance came in the 20th minute when Mandela’s cross was controlled by Youngman but his shot flew wide.
Denis Iguma won possession from deep in the midfield and picked his spot before attempting a strike from deep but his effort flew wide off the post in the 26th minute.
Two minutes after the half-hour mark, Okello was fouled by Vipers’ Juuko on the edge of the 18-yard box but the referee George Olemu waved play on.
Vipers made the first change in the game introducing former KCCA FC player Bright Anukani for Marvin Youngman.
Vipers’ Livingston Mulondo was then booked for a dangerous foul on Tshisungu Kankonde.
1-0 at the break. KCCA FC with the advantage.
After recess, Rogers Mato was fouled by Mulondo. Kankonde stepped up to take the free kick but the ball rolled wide of the upright.
In the 66th, Okello beat Juuko and Mulondo before attempting on goal but Mukundane deflected the ball wide for a corner kick.
Julius Poloto and Shaban Muhammad replaced Mato and Kankonde in the 72nd and 76th minutes.
KCCA FC captain was booked for a time-wasting in the 80th minute.
Two minutes later, Mugume was cautioned for a foul on Milton Karisa.
With two minutes to the end of the clash, Geofrey Wasswa was cautioned for a foul on Abdul Lumala.
1-0 the final score. KCCA FC with the bragging rights and silencing Vipers at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
