Rogers Mato’s goal on the stroke of half time was all that KCCA FC needed to collect crucial three points against Wakiso Giants FC away.

KCCA FC got into the second round at the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table with two points ahead of second placed BUL FC and Vipers SC.

The Cityzens knew a win against Wakiso Giants would prove crucial in their title quest this season.

The hosts had two clear cut chances in the opening three minutes of the game but the day’s custodian Derrick Ochan was equal to the task.

Geofrey Wasswa would then get cautioned for a foul on Moses Aliso in the 4th minute.

Rogers Mato was fouled at the edge of the 18 yards box and Geofrey Wasswa’s free kick flew slightly off the upright in the 10th minute.

Seven minutes later, Mato was fouled just outside the box and this time Kankonde stepped up to take the free kick that flew inches off the frame of the goal.

At the half hour mark, former KCCA FC player, Aliro had a good run behind the defense and got through on goal but Wasswa was just in time to make a spectacular last minute tackle to deny the hosts from taking the lead.

When it seemed like the opening stanza would end goalless, Mato had other plans. In the added minute of the opening stanza, Okello dribbled past three opponents before he was brought down in the box, referee Ali Sabila waved play on and Mato pounced on a loose ball and slotted past Wakiso Giants’ Kiirya to hand KCCA FC the lead on the stroke of halftime.
