KCCA FC were eliminated from the Stanbic Uganda Cup after losing 1-0 to Bright Stars in Kavumba.
This was the second time Bright Stars were eliminating KCCA FC from the Uganda Cup in consecutive seasons 2021/22 and 2022/23.
Bright Stars made the first change of the game introducing former KCCA FC goal keeper for injured Simon Mulabi inside 3 minutes of the game.
The game’s first moment of offensive promise fell to Julius Poloto but his effort was saved on the goal line by Bright Stars’ Matovu.
In the 21st minute, Shaban found the back of the net but the linesman flagged him offside and the goal was ruled out.
Mujuzi Musitafa was the first to go into the referee’s books for a foul on Bright Stars’ Kasinde in 25th minute.
Bright Stars’ Alex Mandera would then get cautioned for a foul on Saidi Mayanja in the 38th minute.
Goalless at the break.
And after recess, Tshisungu Kankonde replaced assistant captain Julius Poloto in the 57th minute.
A minute after the hour mark, Bright Stars’ substitute Bunjo Noordin broke the deadlock with a finish past Benjamin Ochan.
Four minutes later, Rogers Mato was fouled in the box and KCCA FC were awarded a penalty.
Kankonde stepped up to deliver from 12 yards but Bright Stars’ Matovu blocked his effort to keep the tie at 1-0.
Morley Byekwaso rung more changes, introducing Kagawa Ssenoga, Ashraf Mugume, Charles Lwanga for Geoffrey Wasswa, Moses Waiswa and Shaban Muhammad in the 73rd minute.
With 10 minutes of normal time left, Saidi Mayanja was taken off injured and replaced by fellow teenager Hassan Mubiru.
1-0 at full time.
