KCCA FC and Maroons FC played out a goalless draw in the 5th place semifinal of the FUFA Super 8 at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
KCCA FC named two trialists on the matchday squad, Kameni Kevin and Sammy Ssebaduka, with the former starting the game.
In the 5th minute, Kameni had an opportunity to break the deadlock early, but his effort off his left foot flew wide.
KCCA FC defender Musitafa Mujuzi was sent off for a foul on Maroons’ Ogama Baden at the half hour mark.
KCCA FC then had to play 10 men for an hour against a formidable Maroons side whose confidence grew every minute.
Goalless at the interval.
After recess, Emmanuel Anyama and James Mubezi replaced Kevin Kameni and Peter Magambo in the 63rd minute.
Sharif Ssengendo and Juma Ibrahim then replaced Etienne Katenga and Isa Mubiru 12 minutes to the end of the game.
Saidi Mayanja looked like he had won the game for KCCA but his header off Ssengendo’s cross was parried over the bar by Maroons’ custodian, Hassan Matovu.
Goalless after 90 minutes meant the game was to be decided with spotkicks.
KCCA FC converted all its kicks through Bright Anukani, Joel Sserunjogi, Juma Ibrahim, and Fillbert Obenchan.
Goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa proved to be the hero of the day when he superbly saved Jackson Nunda, and Brian Omirambe’s penalties.
A 10 man KCCA FC side won 4-2 against Maroons FC on penalties, and progressed to the 5th place final of the FUFA Super 8 to be played against NEC FC to be played on August 31, 2024
