Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Football Club manager Mike Mutebi has applauded the great character exhibited by the players as the Ugandan champions eliminated Club Desportivo Primeiro de Agosto from the 2017 Total CAF Champions League.

Despite suffering a 2-1 loss at the Estadio 11th Novembre on Sunday, KCCA FC progressed to the next round of the champions 2-2 on aggregate thanks to the crucial away goal scored by prolific striker Geoffrey Serunkuuma.

Manager Mutebi believes the players showed great commitment and a high level of understanding of the game.

The players showed character that they wanted the result. They suffered for that result despite conceding two goals and that’s what helped us to advance. I was impressed with the way they reacted after conceding, the interpretation of the game was class

A delighted Mutebi told www.kccafc.co.ug before adding that the players read the game very well and knew what to do at a particular moment which he thinks was the reason why KCCA FC progressed.

We withdrew and played mainly in our half and allowed those people to come close but every time we broke them, we created chances and that was quite important. The players interpreted game situation and you could see it on the pitch shifting from three defenders to four, then from two blocking midfielders to three

KCCA FC take on defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns on the weekend of March 10-12 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria before playing the return leg on the weekend of March 17-19 at the Philip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

The team that returned in the wee hours of Tuesday morning will for the time being turn it’s focus to the Azam Uganda Premier league as they host Onduparaka on February 25th at the Philip Omondi Stadium
