Jamil Maliyamungu made two spot kick saves and scored the winning kick to ensure KCCA FC qualified for the quarter finals of the 44th edition of the Uganda Cup 2018.
The shot stopper made the first spot kick save in the shoot out to deny Simon Okwi and later denied Wannock’s effort with his powerful left arm. The custodian held his nerve and stepped up to take the deciding kick of the shootout sending the hosts’ keeper the wrong way and ensuring the Champions qualify for the quarter finals.
Muzamir Mutyaba, Denis Okot, Habib Kavuma are the other KCCA FC players that scored in shootout, whereas Paul Mucureezi missed his kick.
KCCA FC pilled pressure from the onset, Shaban Muhammad nodding inches wide five minutes into the game, but it’s the hosts’ that drew first blood threw Steven Ategeka on 12 minutes.
Hardly had the hosts scored when Patrick Kaddu got onto the end of a Kizza Mustafa cultured left cross from a dead ball down the right flank to power home with a clever header and spicing it up with a crazy dance celebration that raised cheers at the stadium, Kizza Mustafa making his 13th assist this season, 10 in the league, 2 on the continent and 1 in the Uganda Cup.
Julius Poloto and Patrick Kaddu were brought down in the box but referee waved play on in the 27th and 38th minute.
Two minutes from halftime, Allan Okello beautifully interchanged with Shaban Muhamamad but the striker shot wide from close range after he had beaten three markers.
After the resume, Paul Mucureezi was introduced to the game for Allan Okello and the cameo immediately made his presence felt three minutes after his introduction with beautifull interplay with Shaban Muhammad who released the midfielder with a crispy pass that he [Mucureezi] slotted in at the hour mark.
Five minutes later, Peter Magambo came on for Julius Poloto and the cameo made two point blank clearances to deny the hosts.
Steven Ategeka drew the tie level eight minutes from time with a low shot passed the Maliyamungu but the custodian was to be the day’s hero later on.
Four minutes from full-time, Solomon Okwalinga was brought on for Patrick Kaddu to add agility in the game but 2-2 is how it ended in full-time and the game was to be decided from spot-kicks.
The hosts missed two of their spot kicks and scored three, whereas KCCA FC scored four and missed one from the five kicks and ensuring they qualify for quarter finals of the 44th edition of the Uganda Cup 2018.
KCCA FC play Brightstars away next in the Uganda Premier League on Sunday 25th March 2018 in Mwererwe.
