KCCA FC lost 1-0 away to Botswana’s Township Rollers in the opening CAF Champions League group A game.
The score line though does not tell the complete story of the game
The visitors played with a lot of promise, enthusiasm and confidence from the start and it was Skipper Timothy Awany who attempted to score on 5 minutes.
Custodian Tom Ikara was then called into action to make a brilliant save on 9 minutes and minutes later Jackson Nunda failed to tuck away two chances- heading the ball wide from a Mustafa Kizza well weighted cross and firing the other wide after being played in by shaban mohammad
Julius Poloto then started a quick counter attack but the midfielder fired inches wide. Filbert Obenchan then made a timely block to deny Joel Mogorosi.
Lemponye Tshireletso gave the hosts the lead, beating Ikara to score in an empty net.
Okello who came close to scoring was brought down at the age of the 18 yard box in the 39th minute and from the resultant free kick, Kizza shot into the wall.
On the other side of haltime, Obenchan capitalized on a loose ball and his shot struck the crossbar, down to the white goal line and out.
Two minutes to the hour mark, Derrick Nsibambi was introduced for Nunda to add fire power upfront.
The forward came close to scoring with a half volley that was saved by Keagile Kgosipula.
Later, Patrick Kaddu came on for Muhammad Shaban to add fresh legs to the tie. Just when the clock was ticking away Poloto shot wide from 10 yards after a well-orchestrated move from Lawrence Bukenya and Kirabira.
Nsibambi then headed the ball straight to the custodian from Kizza’s cross in the last minute.
1-0 is how it ended, Township Rollers wining the game.
