Reigning Uganda Premier League Champions KCCA FC will take on Namibia Premier League Champions African Stars in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League 2019/20 at San Nujoma Stadium, Windhoek.
The Champions of Uganda touched base 17 hours later than the initial expected time but have since then let that pass and have focused on the prize.
The Kasasiro boys held a light training session on Thursday evening at Namibian Football Association technical center to shake off that jet lag and fatigue.
The team then held the final training session on Friday 9th August at Sam Nujoma Stadium, Windhoek ahead of Saturday’s game.
The team looked in shape as emphasis was put on speed in transition and accuracy in shooting at goal.
The Uganda Premier League winners travelled with three players making their first away CAF Champions League trip. Midfelder Kasozi Nicholas who has attained national team caps but has not played for the club in a CAF game, and new promoted players Kato Samuel and Sadat Anaku.
The trio will be hoping to have a runout in Saturday’s crunch tie against the Nambian side.
KCCA FC has never met African Stars FC in any competition and will be hoping they can pick a positive result away from home.
The Nambian side won against Comors’ Volcano Club last year at their home in Windhoek at this stage but later lost to Orlando Pirates in the final qualification round thus dropping to CAF Confederation Cup where Morocco’s Raja Casablanca eliminated them.
KCCA FC’s CAF journey last year started at home against Mtibwa Sugar FC in the CAF Confederation Cup where the Uganda Champions won both legs and were eliminated by Congo’s Otoho D Oyo in the 2nd final qualification round on 3-2 aggregate.
The game will commence at 1500 CAT and 1600 EAT on Saturday 10th August and will be officiated by officials from Seychelles namely; Nelson Emile Fred as the center referee assisted by Gilbert Lista and Eldrick Adelaide while Bernard Hensel Camille will be the fourth official. The match commissioner is Mmonwagotlhe Edwin Senai from Botswana.
