KCCA FC qualify for final qualifier round – CAF Champions League

KCCA FC were 2-0 winners against African Stars FC in the 2nd leg of the CAF Champions League game held at Startimes Stadium, Lugogo.

The visitors, African Stars carried a 3-2 advantage from the first leg but knew they had an uphill task to stop a resilient KCCA side at Lugogo.

Boasting of an unbeaten record at Lugogo in CAF competitions, KCCA were on the front foot from the onset.

Teenager Anaku Sadat got into a one on one situation with the visitors’ goal keeper but the latter parried the effort wide.

Minutes later, Peter Magambo blocked Tjetjinda’s effort from crossing the goal line after the latter had beaten KCCA ‘s custodian Lukwago.

Teenage defender Musa Ramathan who started ahead of Obenchan, made the right flank his own with piercing runs that yielded a lot of questions asked to African Stars’ custodian Uzuva Vipua but for the opening spell he had answers to all.

Musa Ramathan had a colourful CAF Champions League debut.

The visitors’ Chrsipen Mbewe and Papama Marcell were then cautioned for time wasting tactics several times.

With a minute to the half time break, Mutyaba looked to have grabbed the opener but his effort kissed the woodwork after the goal keeper looked beaten.

After recess, Nunda who was making his first start since the semifinal game against Green Eagles in CECAFA last month was introduced to the game for Herbert Achai.

Later, Gift Ali paved way for Nicholas Kasozi. The midfielder immediately made his presence felt and bossed the middle of the pack from then on.

KCCA FC had a penalty appeal turned down in the 70th minute after Mike Mutyaba was brought down in the 18-yard box but referee waved for play to proceed.

Four minutes later, African Stars’ goal keeper Uzuva Vipua was cautioned for time wasting. KCCA made a final change bringing Obenchan for a seemingly injured Musa.

With 10 minutes to play, Mike Mutyaba was fouled 22 yards from the visitors’ goal. Kizza Mustafa stepped up to take the free kick and curled the ball in the back of the net to send the crowd in a frenzy and give KCCA FC the advantage.

Minutes later, Mutyaba interchanged passes with Anaku, the former passed to Okello at the edge of the box who picked his spot and hit the final nail in the coffin and also stretch KCCA’s lead.

KCCA will play the winner between Lesotho’s Matlama or Angola’s Petro de Luanda. The first leg will be played away between 13th, 14th 15th of September and the return leg will be played in Kampala  between 27th, 28th, 29th September at Startimes Stadium, Lugogo.
