Defending Champions KCCA will travel to Jinja to face Busoga United FC in the Startimes Uganda Premier League at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on 3rd September at 4:30 pm.
Fresh from a home win against Wakiso Giants in the season’s opener, the league title holders will be daring for an away win against Jinja based Busoga side that crumbled against Tooro United in their opening fixture for the 2019/20 season.
Formerly known as Kirinya Jinja SSS FC and now tagged Busoga United FC. The club has never won a game against KCCA FC. In the last six meetings between both sides, KCCA FC has won four times and drawn twice against the Jinja based side.
The Jinja based side will be hoping they can break the jinx when they host 13 times league Champions KCCA FC.
In the same fixture last season, KCCA FC were 2-0 winners away against Busoga United FC in a tense game played at Kirinya Jinja SSS, both goals scored by talisman Mike Mutyaba.
In the pre-match press conference held at Startimes Stadium, Lugogo. KCCA FC Gaffer Mike Mutebi had this to say;
Mike Mutebi on UPL game against Busoga United FC
We face a tricky side in Busoga United that has always given us a hard time. We respect them but we have to negotiate the tie and pick up a good result away. These are games we need to win to show our prowess and i have belief in the team that they will show up.
In the last six games between both sides, KCCA FC has scored 11 times, conceded thrice and has collected 14 points from a possible 18 from the fixture.
It is a game that has a lot of anticipation around it given the change of name from Kirinya Jinja SSS to Busoga United FC a move seen by many as a crowd winning stunt. And given the fact that it is the hosts’ first home game of the season, the number of fans at Njeru is inevitable.
However, midfielder Gift Ali Abubakar has his opinion on the game. www.kccafc.co.ug caught up with him and he had this to say;
Gift Ali on the UPL game against Busoga United FC
We want to keep the momentum. We won our first game of the season and we want to keep the foot on the gas. These are games that win teams titles. If we can go away and pick up a result then it would be something good for us. We need to show we are the best team in this country, against our opponents by playing our style of football and winning.
KCCA FC will be playing its fifth competitive game in eleven days but Gaffer Mutebi believes that largely the squad that played against Wakiso Giants in the opener could feature in this encounter to help keep the rhythm.
KCCA FC continues life without Julius Poloto, Hassan Jurua and Sadam Juma who are undergoing rehabilitation to foster full recovery. The rest of the players are available for selection.
