CAF Champions League: Goals Galore as Curtains Fall on KCCA FC’s Continental Journey

KCCA FC bowed out of the 22nd edition of the CAF Champions’ League group stages with a very strong and spirited fight against Al Ahly SC in a game that ended 4-3 in favor of the hosts at Borg Al Arab stadium in Alexandria-Egypt.

KCCA FC were on the back foot for the opening 15 minutes of the game, breaking up opponents play and in search for possession.

Peter Magambo and Tom Ikara twice coming to the rescue, the former clearing the ball of the line while the latter made a point blank save to push the ball out for corner kick.

Sadam Juma then picked a loose ball from the midfield covered 10 yards and released a strike from 20 yards but his delivery went inches wide.

With the opponents playing a fast game and recycling the ball so quick, Azaro caught KCCA FC’s defense unaware and nodded the game’s first goal in past Ikara in the 23rd minute.

KCCA FC later picked momentum and embarked on playing the usual passing game, Awany got on the end of a sweeping move from the defense but his goal bound delivery was cleared away by Saad Samir.

In another swift move from the midfield, Kizza Mustafa delivered his cultured left foot cross that was met by Jackson Nunda, the midfielder thumping in to draw the tie level.

Nunda missed a chance to double the lead at the stroke of halftime, the midfielder controlled the ball and shot straight to El Shenawy. On rushing Kaddu also hit the ball to El Shenawy who pushed the ball away.

After recess, the hosts took the lead five minutes after restart through Salif Coulibaly who pinged the ball in the roof of the net.

Four minutes later, debutant Peter Magambo got at the end of Kizza’s freekick and powered straight into the back of the net to restore parity. A debut goal he will never forget.

With the tie turning into a free scoring game, Oualid Azaro scored in the 62nd minute to record a brace on the day and seven minutes later, Salah Mohsen stretched the lead to Four goals.

Isaac Kirabira and Muzamir Mutyaba were then introduced for Patrick Kaddu and Sadam respectively.

Peter Magambo nearly got another goal to his name with a a owerful header that was saved by El Shenawy.

In 81st minute Allan Okello picked up a loose ball from midfield and sent in a screamer past the hosts’ goal keeper to reduce the deficit.

4-3 the final score, KCCA FC bowing out of the CAF Champions League with a very spirited fight scoring 8 goals, five of them coming away from home and conceding nine goals in the group stages.
