CECAFA Kagame Cup defending Champions, KCCA FC suffered a false start in the quest to defend the Clubs Cup.
It was the repeat of the 2019 final when KCCA FC took on Azam FC at Chamazi Stadium, Daresalaam.

KCCA FC had most of the possession in the early stages of the game. Hitting the woodwork twice in first half courtesy of Iguma Denis and Julius Poloto.
Musa Ramathan surged forward with a lung bursting run but his effort was cleared away by Azam’s Pascal Msindo in 5th minute
Two minutes later, the day’s captain, Gift Ali had the game’s first moment of offensive promise parried away by Azam’s shot stopper Benedict Haule

In the 11th minute, Bright Anukani almost scored from a corner kick but his effort flew off the upright.
New comer Brian Majwega was called into action to clear a ball off the line in the 24th minute. Moments later, Anukani missed to tap in from close range
Denis Iguma’s header rattled the crossbar off a beautiful corner from Anukani in the 28th minute.
Achai Herbert who started in the middle strung a pass from deep that met Poloto but the latter’s effort was blocked by Azam’s keeper Haule.
After recess, Sam Ssenyonjo replaced Brian Aheebwa.

A minute after the break, Azam’s Peter Paul picked a ball at the edge of the KCCA box and had some quick exchange Tepsie Evancy before slotting home the opener past Hassan Matovu.
Azam’s Massoud Abdallah was then cautioned by the referee for a foul on Herbert Achai in 55th minute.
At the hour mark, Lwanga Charles replaced Achai.
Three minutes later, Peter Paul found his second goal for the night in almost similar fashion like the first.

In the 65th minute, Julius Poloto and Iguma Denis hit the woodwork in a space of 30 seconds.
With a quarter an hour to play, Majwega’s runs down the wings got him beating two markers, crossed in the box but Ssenyonjo’s header flew wide off the bar.
With 5 minutes to go, Juma Balinya and Samson Kigozi replaced Ashraf Mugume and Julius Poloto.
0-2 the final score.
KCCA FC going down in the first game of the group stages.

The defending champions have a chance to redeem themselves against KMKM FC and Le Messager Ngozi on Thursday and Saturday respectively.
