Reigning Startimes Uganda Premier League Champions KCCA FC picked three points on the road against a stubborn Maroons side at Luzira Prisons Grounds

KCCA FC drew first blood through Mike Mutyaba who pounced on a spilled ball by the host’s shot-stopper and tapped in goal with three minutes to the end of the opening stanza.

The hosts drew the tie level through Solomon Walusimbi in the 69th minute but the Champions left it late through a penalty from Kizza Mustafa and a late header in stoppage time from Nigerian John Egbuonu Odumegwu.

KCCA FC should have gone up in the early stages of the game but were let down by a couple of wasted chances from Simon Serunkuma and Sadat Anaku inside 10 minutes of the game.

Anaku had a sharp turn and stinging shot saved by Maroon’s Sebwalunyo on 17 minutes.

Skipper Charles Lukwago was twice called into action to deny Steven Mukwala on two occasions in a space of five minutes.

In the second stanza, Kasozi Nicholas was introduced for Kizito Keziron to try to add some grit to the game. The cameo immediately made the middle of the pack his own and added on the team’s creativity.

Simon Serunkuma then paved way for Erisa Sekisambu on 55 minutes.

Just when it seemed like the visitors were to take the day, the hosts drew the tie level through substitute Solomon Walusimbi.

John Odumegwu was then introduced in place of Sadat Anaku. The cameo’s bicycle shot hit a Maroon’s defender’s arm and KCCA FC was awarded a penalty with three minutes to play. Kizza Mustafa stepped up and converted from the penalty spot to give KCCA FC the advantage.

Focus now switches to CAF Confederation Cup where KCCA FC shall face Paradou A.C on Sunday 27th October at Startimes Stadium, Lugogo in the 2nd preliminary round.
