Match Report | Derby ends in stalemate – #SCVKCCA

KCCA FC and SC Villa played out a stalemate in Njeru.

Dubbed the biggest club football game in the country all odds were in KCCA FC’s favor given that the 13 times league champions were unbeaten going into match Day 11 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

From the onset KCCA FC looked the better team and enjoyed most spells with possession but fell short in the final third.

Gift Ali

Charles Lwanga and Davis Kasirye missed clear chances with the goal at their mercy in the 4th and 8th minute.

Denis Iguma then tested the goal keeper from distance but his effort was palmed away to keep the tie level in the 9th minute.

Jurua Hassan the surged forward and sent a fierce shot which Villa’s keeper palmed away.

In the 23rd minute, Rogers Mato’s header rattled the woodwork off a good cross from Majwega down the right flank.

Dennis Iguma

After half an hour, the referee called for a water break due to the scorching sunshine in Njeru.

0-0 at the break.

After recess, John Revita got cautioned 10 minutes into the second half for commiting a foul.

KCCA FC kept looking for the breakthrough and it took untill the 70th minute.

Rogers Mato floated in air to nod home beautifully from a flawless corner kick by Brian Majwega with 20 minutes of normal time to play.

Charles Lwanga and Davis Kasirye then made way for Bukenya Joseph and Samuel Ssenyonjo in the 80th minute.

Andrew Kawooya would later replace Rogers Mato in the 85th minute.

In the 89th minute, the referee William Oloya pointed to the penalty spot citing a foul on Villa player Benson Muhindo in the box.

Muhindo stepped up and scored from the penalty spot to draw the tie level in Njeru.

Brian Aheebwa later replaced Gift Ali in added time.

The derby ending in stalemate. KCCA FC are still top of the table with 27 points from 11 games.

The 13 times Uganda Premier League Champions who are still unbeaten, host last season’s league Champions Express on Wednesday 22nd December 2021.
