After the opening game of the 2017/2018 Azam Uganda Premier League, reigning champions Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA FC) settled for a barren draw with newly promoted Maroons Football Club.
Despite numerous goal scoring chances created, KCCA FC couldn’t cross the chalked line at will like it was last season.
Strikers Derrick Nsibambi and Tito Okello were handed the mantle to do the job, unfortunately the duo were kept in check by Maroon’s backline all evening.
However that doesn’t bother Nsibambi who believes that goals will come and fans shouldn’t lose faith in the team after just one game.
The opening game of the season is always tough, we gave our all against a very good side in Maroons but unfortunately we couldn’t get the three points as we had planned for, we still have 29 games to go, and the goals will come
Nsibambi told www.kccafc.co.ug after the game, the striker managed 8 goals last season in the league, with 7 in the Uganda FUFA Uganda Cup where he was the leading scorer.
The good thing with our team, we create the chances, so as the strikers we just need to find our footing as soon as possible, and you will have a better performance from us in the next game, that I assure the fans
The goal scoring department was one the manager Mike Hillary Mutebi paid a lot of attention to in the transfer market, with Tito, Faisam Malango, and Abubakar Sadiq Tijanni all brought in to work with Nsibambi.
But the team is also boosted by a midfield department that doesn’t only create chances but can also find the back of the net in Allan Okello, Paul Mucureezi, Muzamir Mutyaba, Sadam Ibrahim Juma and Jackson Nunda.
Last season, KCCA FC conceded 25 goals and scored 59, more than any other club, the 12 time champions scored 40 goals at home and conceded just 12, as they won 13 of their home games, drawing and losing once against URA (2-2) and Vipers (1-2) respectively.
A fact that many have not really paid attention too, KCCA FC had the best away form, winning seven, drawing five and losing just thrice, scoring 19 times and letting in just 13 goals.
That form will have to improve this season if the league title is to remain at Lugogo for a third straight season.
