KCCA retained the Azam Uganda Premier League title with a 2-0 win over Lweza at the Phillip Omondi Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Yellow Lads came in to the game with 57 points from 27 games and a five-point advantage over nearest rivals SC Villa who had played a game more.

This meant victory would seal a 12th title and fourth in five seasons for KCCA FC who are also flying Uganda’s flag high on the continent.

It was however the away side that settled into the game faster with goalkeeper Douglas Kisembo saving from a one on one situation before another effort from John Kisakye wet narrowly wide.

Starting with Timothy Awany, Paul Musamali and Habib Kavuma in defense, KCCA improved as Isaac Muleme, Isac Kirabira, Ivan Ntege and Denis Rukundo began bossing the game.

Tom Masiko then had a freekick hitting the bar before Derrick Nsibambi who started upfront alongside Brian Majwega had the opposition goalkeeper stretching to force out his goal-bound header.

It was all celebrations at the Philip Omondi Stadium after KCCA FC defeated Lweza 2-0 to secure a 12th league title.

With the teams going level at the break and the majority crowd becoming a little uneasy, Manager Mike Mutebi introduced 19-goal striker Geoffrey Serunkuuma for Majwega immediately after restart.

The all important breakthrough came 15 minutes later when Lweza defender Henry Wamala appeared to shove Nsibambi in the penalty box.

Sserunkuma, who’s netted three of the team’s last penalties relinquished duty to Masiko who sent the ball to the goalkeeper’s right as he fell in the opposite direction. KCCA were now in the ascendancy and duly got the second soon after.

The fans in the stans couldn’t hide their excitement and joy as KCCA FC defeated Lweza 2-0 to secure a 12th league title.

Good combination between Serunkuuma and Nsibambi saw the former play a delightful return pass only for Sula Bagala to intervene albeit illegally.

The Lweza defender hacked down Nsibambi as the striker choked to shoot with a second penalty consequently awarded.

Serukuuma this time obligingly picked the ball and dispatched the spot kick with the same outcome as Masiko for his league leading 20th goal of the season.

Even the late red card to Awany could not dampen the celebratory mood at the Phillip Omondi Stadium as the Yellow Lads moved to 60 points and an insurmountable eight-point lead with two games left.

With 12 titles now Mike Mutebi’s boys are fast closing in on the record 16 held by rivals Villa.
