Derrick Nsibambi (R) celebrates his first goal and KCCA FC’s third against Kataka in the Fufa Uganda Cup Round of 16 played at Nabini playground in Bufumbo Sub County, Mbale District

Derrick Nsibambi came off the bench to score twice and help KCCA FC overcome lower division opposition to reach quarter finals of the Uganda Cup.

On a bumpy Nabini playground in Bufumbo sub county on Tuesday, KCCA went ahead after just 22 minutes through Brian Majwega.

Midfielder Ivan Ntege shot from over 20 yards and Kataka goalkeeper failed to tame the drive, allowing Majwega to slot home from a follow-up.

Kataka equalised in the 40th minute off a Junior Amanya well executed low freekick that beat the wall and goalkeeper Charles Lukwago before finding the back of the net.

There was more scare for KCCA in added time of the first half, another free kick hitting the post before jumping off Nassur Nandala and into the net for the hosts 2-1 half time lead.

Manager Mike Mutebi made three immediate substitutes before the second half could resume, Geoffrey Sserunkuma, Nsibambi and Paul Mucureezi all coming on for Robert Ssentongo, Vincent Kayiizi and Ivan Ntege respectively.

Brian Majwega had a field as his man of the match performance yielded two goals against a hard fighting Kataka side

The three mounted pressure on the Kataka backline and in the 69th Derrick Onyayi handled the ball in the forbidden area.

Majwega stepped up and dispatched the resultant penalty to level the scores.

Mucureezi and Majwega assisted, by Issac Muleme and Denis Rukundo, patrolled the wings and later hell broke loose.

Isaac Kirabira found Rukundo, who released Mucureezi, the latter with a well weighed cross finding Nsibambi.

Like he did against Al-Masry last Saturday, the number nine made to mistake, this time using his head to put KCCA ahead.

With time running out, the referee signalled six minutes of added time.

Mucureezi used this time to continue probing the Kataka defence, leaving them in sixes and sevens before laying one for Nsibambi.

With the hosts backline beaten, Nsibambi made no mistake, the striker netting his sixth of the tournament.

KCCA weren’t done. Goalkeeper Lukwago launched a long goal kick only to be intercepted by Kataka’s Walter Ochola. Unfortunately for Ochola, he could only divert it into his own net.

KCCA FC will now play Police in the quarter finals  at Namboole later this month.
