Club Africain coach Chiheb Ellili admitted he was forced to bring on midfielder Oussamma Darragi in the second half as KCCA dominated possession in their 2017 Total Caf Confederation Cup Group A tie played on Tuesday evening at Lugogo.
Many of the fans that attended the game at the Phillip Omondi Stadium and particularly KCCA FC Manager Mike Mutebi could hardly look past playmaker Allan Okello.
The youngster who has missed the last Caf Confederation Cup game against FUS Rabat because of school commitments showed no sign of rust on his return to continental action in a performance that oozed class.
This is a group of players who are equally at the same level. Every time we call on somebody they are supposed to serve as the other. So yes Okot came in and he made the difference as the captain
The manager said on Tuesday evening before emphasizing on the impact of Allan Okello as KCCA FC won the tie 2-1.
“I think the most important players on the day like I have always told you is that young boy, Allan Okello there is no question about it. You can see when he was still on the pitch, the team was thinking, Masiko was playing.
“That young man, I pray he does not get disorganized; he is the future of Ugandan football. He is that important to our team. His return made the difference. The creativity level he had was he was still in the team
Okello’s performance included one long range first half effort that was parried by the Club Africain keeper and composure whenever he had the ball.
The midfielder though looked weary in the latter stages of the game and was later substituted for Paul Mucureezi.
By then the boys were already 2-1 up courtesy of goals by Derrick Nsibambi and Tom Masiko, a result they held on to put the Caf Confederation Cup quarterfinal dream on track.
KCCA FC is now level on points with the Tunisian club and Fus Rabat who later play Nigeria’s Rivers United later on Wednesday.
