Sadat Anaku’s goal in the 12th minute is all KCCA FC needed to pick an away win against Doves FC in Masindi and qualify for the quarter-finals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup
The Uganda Cup record winners kicked off with big-time intent and zeal.
10 minutes into the game, Anaku made a smart run to control a well weighted pass from Keziron but his effort flew wide off the upright.
Two minutes later, debutant Juma Ibrahim run down the left flank and crossed to Filbert Obenchan who nodded onto the crossbar and the rebound found Anaku in the right place at the right time, the forward made no mistake but nod home what proved to be the match-winner.
Sekisambu could have doubled the lead but he failed to make the connection off a good ball from young Ibrahim.
On the 37th minute, Ibrahim Juma’s corner met Obenchan on the far post but his header went down and above.
Two minutes to recess, Sadam picked up a good ball from Keziron but his effort flew wide off the post.
After recess, young custodian, Ali Mwirusi made two spectacular saves to keep KCCA in it. The second being the best, with the shot-stopper one on one with Doves’ Ivan Busingye, he calmly collected the ball from the top left corner.
Obenchan then pulled off the game’s best save with a clearance off the goal line.
On the 70-minute mark, Doves’ skipper Ivan Busingye was sent off for a lunge on debutant Juma Ibrahim. The referee made no mistake sending him off for an early shower.
Anaku could have grabbed a brace but his effort was cleared off the line after he had lobbed the keeper on 77 minutes.
10 minutes to fulltime, another academy player Mwanje Elvis was handed his senior club debut, replacing Keziron Kizito.
KCCA’s skipper Gift Ali was cautioned for a foul on an opponent.
Debutant Mwanje immediately showed impact with a long ball to Sekisambu but the latter’s effort was kept out by Doves’ custodian.
0-1 at Fulltime. KCCA FC progressing to the quarter-finals of the 46th edition of the Uganda Cup 2019/20 season.
The cup record winners will have to wait for the draws to know who they will face in the quarter-finals of this year’s edition.
