CAF Confederation Cup | 2nd preliminary round
KCCA FC’s journey in the CAF Confederation Cup came to and end on Saturday as the Cityzens were eliminated by Libya’s Abu Salim on 5-4 aggregate over two legs.
KCCA FC head coach Sergio Daniel named two debutants in James Mubezi a center half and Juma Mutebi a goal keeper against Abu Salim SC.
Moses Waiswa, Peter Magambo, Gabriel Joao, Abubaker Mayanja, all who did not start the first leg in Tunisia, started the home game.
KCCA FC drew first blood when Muhammad Shaban capitalized on a defensive lapse and tapped home in the 19th minute to bring some life in the tie.
Three minutes later, Ettiene teed up Abu Mayanja who beat two men and shot wide when Abu Salim’s goal keeper Moaad Amer looked beaten.
On 28 minutes, Shaban should have doubled his tally when Abu Mayanja sneaked into the box and laid a beautiful pass across but the number nine was a fraction of a second late and missed the tap in.
1-0 at the break.
After recess, the referee awarded the visitors Abu Salim SC a penalty and Abdulmunem Aleiyan converted from 12 yards in the 69th minute.
KCCA FC made some changes, introducing Usama Arafat, Ashraf Mugume and Hassan Mubiru for Joao Gabriel and Shaban Muhammad and Emilson Gonzaga.
Usama Arafat pulled a goal back in the 83rd minute but three minutes later, Abu Salim’s Peter Nworah leveled the score when he capitalized on a lapse in the KCCA FC defense.
Usama doubled his tally on the 90th minute mark but that was not enough for KCCA FC to progress to the group stages.
3-2 at full time. KCCA FC losing the tie to Abu Salim SC 5-4 on aggregate.
KCCA FC will now switch focus immediately to StarTimes Uganda Premier League after yet another failed continental campaign.
