KCCA FC put four past Kitara regional league side Rwenzori Lions FC to qualify for the quarterfinals of this year’s edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

A brace from left-back James Mubezi and a goal each from Sadat Anaku and Etienne Katenga are what the record winners needed in the first-ever Uganda Cup game for KCCA FC played under the lights.

James Mubezi opened the hunt for goals with a tap-in from close quarters off a corner kick to give KCCA FC the lead inside 9 minutes.

Rwenzori’s goalkeeper Masereka, swung into action to save Sharifu Ssengendo’s shot from the edge of the box in the 18th minute.

In the 23rd minute, Hashim Kule of Rwenzori Lions was cautioned for a foul on Sadat Anaku as he surged forward towards goal.

KCCA’s Peter Magambo was cautioned two minutes later for a late challenge on Rwenzori’s Mumbere.

Bright Anukani’s quick feet allowed him to get past two markers and lob the ball in the box, only for Anaku to strike his volley wide 7 minutes from the halftime interval.

After the break, Saidi Mayanja replaced Bright Anukani.

The scorer of the goal in the first half became the provider in the second stanza.

Mubezi’s power run inside the box had him provide a beauty of an assist to Anaku, who tapped home to double KCCA’s lead just two minutes after the restart.

Derrick Nsibambi and Etienne Katenga replaced Sadat Anaku and Usama Arafat, respectively.

James Mubezi was the quickest to react when Nsibambi’s effort hit the woodwork, the left-back putting the ball in the back of the net to score his second ever goal for the club and a brace on the evening.

Ashraf Mugume then replaced Sharifu Ssengendo with 5 minutes of normal time left to play.

Rwenzori’s Ronald Baguma was then cautioned for a late challenge on Katenga.

The cherry on top of the cake was Katenga’s exquisite finish in stoppage time to make it four for KCCA FC under the lights.
