KCCA FC eclipsed Wakiso Giants FC in the quarter final of the FUFA Super Cup played at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
A brace from teenage forward Abubaker Mayanja ensured the inaugural FUFA Super 8 winners would qualify for the semifinals of this year’s edition.
Abu, the shortest player on the pitch, leaped twice in the second stanza to head into Wakiso’s goal.
In the first half, Carlos Da Silva Cungulo Gui, controlled a good ball from Abu but the former’s effort flew wide off the post in the 20th minute.
At the half-hour ,mark, the skipper Poloto was taken off on a stretcher after he collided with Wakiso’s Tom Masiko.
Angolan Ettiene Katenga was then introduced to replace the captain.
Nine minutes later, Faisal Wabyoona was also taken off on a stretcher after a bad foul from Wakiso Marvin Nyanzi. The latter was cautioned for unsportsmanlike behavior.
Moses Waiswa then replaced Wabyoona. The former’s impact was immediately felt as he brought calm in the game and KCCA FC had more offensive play.
Goalless at the interval.
After recess, Abubaker Mayanja nodded home from close quarters to hand KCCA FC the lead off a perfect cross by Haruna Lukwago just four minutes after the restart.
Obenchan could have stretched the lead but his header was pushed away by KCCA FC graduate Bashir Ssekajja at the hour mark.
Two minutes later, Wakiso Ambrose Arinda and KCCA’s Haruna Lukwago were cautioned for fouls.
In the 66th minute, Sergio introduced Joal Sserunjogi and Brazilians Vincius Michael and Joao Gabriel for Gui Cungulo, Saidi Mayanja and Usama Arafat.
Two minutes later, Abu Mayanja nodded home his second goal of the day off Ettiene’s cross to stretch KCCA’s lead.
Joel Sserunjogi was later cautioned for a foul on Wakiso’s Kaddu.
2-0 the final score.
KCCA FC qualifying for the semi final of the FUFA Super 8 tournament and will face URA FC on Sunday 20th August 2023.
