KCCA FC qualified for the semifinal of the 51st edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after beating Kaaro Karungi 2-1 in Ntungamo.

The 10-time record winners bagged a late first-half goal from Derrick Nsibambi, which took a slight deflection off Norman Ndyamuhaki as it flew into the back of the net.

The hosts leveled matters courtesy of their talisman, Clinton Kamugisha, just three minutes after the restart.

However, Usama Arafat’s goal at the hour mark would prove to be the winner and secure KCCA FC the ticket to the semifinal.

Early in the game, Shafik Kwikiriza came close twice, but his efforts flew inches wide in the 10th and 15th minutes.

Derrick Nsibambi’s effort then rattled the woodwork off Kwikiriza’s pinpoint cross in the 17th minute.

Two minutes later, Kwikiriza’s venomous shot stung the palms of the goalkeeper, and the ball was parried wide for a corner kick.

Nsibambi nodded home perfectly off Joel Sserunjogi’s well-taken corner kick to hand KCCA FC the lead.

There was an hour’s delay in having the match restart due to a heavy downpour in Ntungamo.

After recess, the hosts leveled the tie through Clinton Kamugisha’s low, powerful drive that flew past Mutwalibi Mugolofa.

Gavin Kizito should have handed KCCA FC the lead again, but his header flew inches over the bar off Sserunjogi’s well-taken corner kick.

Coach Jackson Magera then rung some changes, Emmanuel Anyama and Saidi Mayanja replacing Derrick Nsibambi and Ashraf Mugume 10 minutes into the second half.

Four minutes later, Usama’s deflected shot from outside the 18-yard box found the back of the net to hand KCCA the lead again.

The center referee, Asadu Semere, cautioned KCCA FC reserve goalkeeper Anthony Emojong for backchatting.

Saidi Mayanja was fouled by Kamugisha outside the box, and a free kick was awarded to KCCA FC. Usama stepped up to guide it into the back of the net, but his effort flew over the bar with a quarter of an hour left to play.

Julius Poloto then replaced substitute Emmanuel Anyama in the 78th minute.

Goalkeeper Mugolofa stepped up when the team needed him most, and he kept out Clinto Kamugisha’s freekick in the 85th minute.

Sammy Ssebaduka later replaced Usama Arafat as goalkeeper, as Mugolofa got cautioned for delaying restart in stoppage time.

2-1 the final score.
