KCCA FC and Vipers played out a one-all draw at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

It was an affair that had everything to fight for with the top table position on the line.

KCCA FC had to wait until the 19th minute for the game’s first moment of offensive promise. Some quick passing between Usama and Saidi opened up the hosts’ defense, but the former’s effort hit the side net.

Bright Anukani’s clever lob over the hosts’ backline was meant to fall to Saidi Mayanja, but the latter was a fraction of a second late and the ball rolled wide in the 27th minute.

Goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa swung into action to deny Vipers’ Karim Watambala’s effort from a set piece at the 40th minute mark.

The hosts would then draw first blood through their captain, Milton Karisa, who nodded home off Ndahiro’s cross into the box at the death of the opening stanza.

In the 61st minute, Vipers’ Allan Okello and KCCA’s goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa were cautioned for pushing and shoving one another.

Abubaker Mayanja would then replace Usama Arafat.

With 10 minutes to play, James Mubezi surged forward and crossed in the box for Anaku, but the latter’s header flew wide.

KCCA’s final change had right wingback Haruna Lukwago replace Gavin Kizito.

The center referee, Lucky Kaslirwe, signaled four minutes of stoppage time, and Mubezi’s cross was once again headed wide by Anaku.

When it all seemed like the hosts were destined for a party, the Cityzens had other plans.

Some quick interplay between Haruna Lukwago and Abubaker Mayanja had the latter lay the ball to Joel Sserunjogi, whose crisp lob forward found Ashraf Mugume at the edge of the box.

Mugume controlled the ball with his chest and time stood still, then struck a half volley past Vipers’ custodian Kiggundu to send the travelling Cityzens into a wild celebration.
