Opio Sunday’s 17th-minute left-footed shot was all the defending Champions needed to pay the debt they had over Tooro United FC.
The small man who was making his first full debut, home debut and second appearance for KCCA FC pounced on a loose ball from a poor clearance from the opponents and struck hard past Tooro United’s custodian Kusiima Chris.
Mike Mutyaba’s flawless corner kick met a floating Filbert Obenchan whose header was loosely cleared and dropped in the way of Opio who fired home his maiden senior goal.
Opio plays in the KCCA FC junior team and is widely seen as one of the promising youngsters who the manager is likely to promote to the senior side soon.
Mike Mutebi named a seemingly changed side from what was fielded in the previous game against Brightstars.
Opio and Sserwadda who started on the bench in the previous game started in place for Muzamiru Mutyaba who is out injured and Erisa Sekisambu who started on the bench.
Sadat Anaku who has missed two games due to licensing issues, started upfront while Julius Poloto and goalkeeper Mwirusi Ali started from the sidelines.
In the 8th minute, Opio seemed to have opened his account for KCCA but his left-footed curled effort rattled the crossbar and was cleared away.
Tooro’s players were then cautioned for unsportsmanlike behavior. Mukungu Rashid, Byamukama John, and Katongole Farouk were all registered in the referee’s book for the wrong reasons.
In the second stanza, Poloto replaced Sserwadda and Mike Mutyaba made way for Sekisambu.
John Revita had the opportunity to stretch KCCA’ s lead but his acrobatic effort was saved by Tooro’s custodian Kusiima in the 80th minute.
Late in the game, Kasozi Nicholas was introduced to restore calm in the game as Opio made way in 82nd minute.
1-0 the final score.
