On Friday 9th February, the second phase of construction works for the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo were commissioned by the Hon. Peter Ogwang State Minister for Sports in the company of KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, Hon. Hakim Kizza (representing H/W the Lord Mayor for Kampala Salongo Erias Lukwago), Mr. Charles Magnot the Director of Education and Social Services, Eng. Andrew Mukiibi Sserunjogi, the Chairman of KCCA FC, and the entire board, management, and distinguished guests from various stakeholders.
The commissioning event was held at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
The construction for phase one of the VIP wing of the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, started in 2021 under Sarjan construction.
Upon completion of the first phase of works, there was a public call for bids from suitable constructors for the construction of the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
This directive is in line with the open domestic bidding method, strictly abiding by Uganda’s Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act, 2003 (revised in March 2014).
After careful selection, Sarjan Construction was awarded the contract to proceed with the phase II construction works for the VIP stand of the stadium.
At the start of the event, the KCCA FC CEO, guided the invited guests on how far the project has come from phase I up until its completion and also explained what it will take to successfully complete the phase II work within the set timelines.
Hon. Peter Ogwang who was the guest of honor, commended the brace work being executed and called for the contractor to speed up the process.
I want to thank the management of KCCA for putting up such a facility. This is a time that Uganda as a country needs more facilities in place especially as we eye steady development of the sports sub sector. In 2027, we shall host the AFCON with Kenya and Tanzania. Uganda needs facilities as the MTN Omondi Stadium in place for training purposes. I therefore call for completion of the stadium

The Executive Director of KCCA, Ms. Dorothy Kisaka, who flanked the Hon. Minister for Sports, also commended the ongoing work and service under the visionary leadership of the Board and management.
I want to commend the leadership of Eng. Andrew Mukiibi Sserunjogi and his board together with management led by Ms. Anisha Muhoozi for the great work done and ensuring proper service delivery. As KCCA, we pledge more support to projects around the capital city that will ensure our stadium turs into a smarter city. We look forward to supporting the construction of the stadium to its completion so that it can be turned into a state of the art facility.

Hon. Hakim Kizza, who represented the Lord Mayor of Kampala, H/W Ssalongo Erias Lukwago, delivered his message and said;
The Lord Mayor send you greetings and pledges his support towards this project. He wishes that the construction lasts within the set deadlines. His dream is to see the stadium host many international matches like CAF and AFCON 2027. He further notes that proper accountability processes are followed to see this project through

The Chairman of KCCA FC, Eng. Andrew Mukiibi Sserunjogi, thanked the government for their support and pledged compliance to ensure this project is completed successfully.
I want to thank the Government of Uganda for the financial support that has enabled us to come this far. We pledge for more support to see us through the completion of the stadium. On behalf of the board, I am tasking the contractor, Sarjan, to complete the phase II works in the set time so we can proceed to another phase and have this VIP stand completed.

Before the commissioning of the phase II works, there was a guided tour around the entire facility for the guests to have a glance at the progress and appreciate how far the construction has come.
The second phase of construction commences with immediate effect and is expected to run until the end of 2024.
This phase will have the construction of the third and fourth floors just above the VVIP boxes and also the roofing of the entire VIP stand, with the set deadline being the end of 2024.
