The history of Ugandan clubs against Arabian clubs and Tunisian outfit Club Africain particular is well documented.

For the second consecutive continental game at the Phillip Omondi Stadium however the newly crowned league champions showed that the gap among teams on the continent has narrowed.

This followed a 2-1 win over Tunisia’s Club Africain on Tuesday that came hot on the heels of last month’s 1-0 win over Egypt’s Al Masry last month.

The result against the Tunisians had the goals come from Derrick Nsibambi and Tom Masiko and they helped KCCA FC reignite their quarterfinal ambitions following the opening group game loss away to FUS Rabat.

Tom masiko (R) was in fine form against Club Africain in the Group A home tie of the 2017 Total CAF Confederation Cup tie at Lugogo

“This was our best match of the season. We were tactically fantastic. We were in command from the word go, pressing in midfield and disorganized their midfield.

“The players played with confidence and belief. The more they muster the way we are supposed to play then we are going to be a very dangerous team,” the manager stated in the post-match conference.

On the reaction after conceding

“We showed belief that we can compete with the best on the continent. We conceded but how do we react. Ugandan teams usually think that it is finished when we concede but the belief that we can do it.

“Coming from a goal down and playing our way shows players have started believing in themselves and that they can compete with the best players on the continent. It is good for the players’ confidence and our project.”

Mutebi hails goalscorers

“Fantastic! When you train things and they happen on the pitch, you can see the goals were not by accident, Masiko has been scoring goals like that in the past matches and we have been encouraging him to shoot. He is an intelligent player.

Derrick (Nsibambi), put in the crosses, he is daring, fantastic in the air and holds up play well, you’ve heard the coach saying he brought in someone to counter that. Feed him well and he is a good finisher. I was very impressed.
