Every footballer’s dream is to play the game to the top level and the epitome would be donning the national team jersey.

That is exactly what Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) striker Derrick Nsibambi experienced as he made his competitive debut for Uganda against Cape Verde in Praia on Sunday.

Due to his scintillating form at KCCA FC, Nsibambi earned a call to the national team and the sensational forward started for Uganda Cranes as they edged Cape Verde 1-0 in a 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Nsibambi could not hide his delight after the game indicating it was a dream come true for him.

I’m happy that I have made my competitive debut for the national team and most importantly that we managed to win the game

The striker told www.kccafc.co.ug before asserting it has been out of hard work and commitment, he also added.

It is not easy to make the national team fold but I’m happy that after giving my best at club level, I have achieved this. My club KCCA FC has given me the platform to reach this far

Nsibambi featured for 90 minutes before he was withdrawn in added time for fellow club mate and defender Timothy Awany.

It was Geoffrey Serunkuuma who got the all-important goal in the 83rd minute to help Uganda edge Cape Verde 1-0.
