By: Moses Magero

KCCA FC and Angola’s Atletico Petroleos de Luanda will lock horns in the 1st leg of the first-round 1/16 preliminary match to be held at Estadio 11 de Novembro on Saturday 14th September 2019.

KCCA eliminated Namibia’s African Stars in the previous round on 4-3 aggregate while Atletico Petroleos de Luanda ejected Lesotho’s Matlama 4-0 on aggregate.

KCCA FC arrived in Angola on Thursday 12th September and held the initial training session that evening at Catetao Stadium in Luanda ahead of the match against Atletico Petroleos de Luanda.

All the 17 players that travelled with the team took part in the final training held at Estadio 11 de Novembro on the evening of Friday 13th September.

It will be KCCA FC’s second stint in Angola. The first one came in 2017 against Primeiro de Agosto at Estadio 11 de Novembro the same venue of Saturday’s fixture.

KCCA eliminated Agosto in 2017 on a 2-2 aggregate but with an advantage of an away goal difference against the Angolan side.

The 13 times Uganda Premier League Champions have three surviving members of the squad that travelled to Angola in 2017. Captain Charles Lukwago, Allan Okello and Muzamiru Mutyaba are the three that travelled to for the tie then.

www.kccafc.co.ug caught up with the assistant manager Morley Byekwaso and he shared his opinion on the CAF game.

We are ready for the challenge. We have trained well, and we have acclimatized to the environment. We came to Angola with a mission and hopefully we can accomplish it. We are aware of our opponents and their style of play and we shall try to diffuse them

KCCA FC will most likely keep custodian and skipper Charles Lukwago between the posts.

Obenchan, Kizza, Kato and Magambo are likely to keep the backline tight. There is a possibility of deploying left-footed and versatile players in Hassan Musana and Eric Ssenjobe.

Gift Ali, Muzamiru, Achai, Nunda, Sserwadda and debutant Serunkuma will jostle for positions in the middle of the pack.

Okello, Anaku and experienced forward Mike Mutyaba will be tasked to search for goals.

KCCA FC goes into the game knowing that an away goal would be key as it has been in the past especially on occasions where the team has progressed to the next round.

As much an away goal will be key in the tie, a solid tight backline would do the team better. www.kccafc.co.ug caught up with Peter Magambo who will be featuring in his 5th CAF game for the club since his debut against Al Ahly away in Alexandria, Egypt in 2018.

We are set for the game. We want to pick a positive result away from home and as a defender i want to ensure we do not concede first. This will be my 5th CAF Champions League game for the club and i want to make a good memory out of it. My center half partner (Kato Samuel) and i keep complimenting each other and this has helped both of us grow in the game.
